Acoustic insulation against foot traffic noise of floor slabs in concrete-cement: double-layer solution

To prevent noise transmission in floor slabs it is necessary to include a soft and elastic material which can be installed directly between the noise source and the floor slab, such as with carpet floor, or within the stratigraphy of the slab. This second solution is commonly referred to as “floating floor”, that INDEX proposes with the combined use of FONOSTOPDuo, FONOSTOPTrio, FONOCELL and FONOCELL ROLL. Compared to other systems, the floating floor soundproofing solution increases benefits, because by interposing the insulation with the walking surface, the mass of the screed is separated from the mass of the floor slab creating a “horizontal double wall”, as normally happens when insulating walls (see relevant chapter), whereby the floating floor isolates the noise of footsteps but also:
• reduces the lateral air noise transmission of the walls crossing the floor slab
• reduces direct air noise transmission of the floor slab.
